Insane back to Pacha fo another amazing season

Insane has been one of the stand out parties of the last couple of seasons, offering the Pacha faithful a more underground start to the weekend and bringing together some of the most innovative, forward-thinking DJs and producers. John Digweed has been at the heart of the party since its launch in 2013, an initial resident alongside Fritz Kalkbrenner, he has shared resident duties with numerous high profile DJs since, with MK returning to the booth for the 2015 season. Pacha maintains its policy of giving the island something back before the season kicks off in earnest by delivering preseason parties for each of its weekly residencies, free entry to all who live here, getting us in the mood for the imminent arrival of summer. Friday night was Digweed’s turn to take centre stage, with Alex Kennon providing able support.

Insane has rapidly built its reputation amongst the musically educated that inhabit and visit the island, in only two seasons it has secured a place in the hearts of those that might normally occupy a slightly darker club space. As the world’s most glamorous clubbing destination, Pacha might not be the obvious choice for the underground set but, in all fairness, it has always embraced both commercial and cutting edge music in its weekly offering. 2015 sees Insane return with another massive schedule, pitting some of the finest talent against each other on a weekly basis with the only possible winner being the dancefloor. The opening party sets the bar as John Digweed is joined by Dennis Ferrer and Tensnake for a mouth-watering statement of intent on May 22 and fans of the Friday night can also look forward to Derrick Carter, Groove Armada, Hot Since 82, Pete Tong and Amine Edge & DANCE, to name only a few, joining the two main residents throughout this summer.

Ibiza 2015 is officially days away – although anyone on the island now will tell you temperature, traffic and people wise, it might have already started! It promises to be an exciting summer in Pacha on a Friday night and as if to reinforce that feeling further we dropped in to the preseason party on Friday, which went right off! It had been a crazy few days with temperatures surpassing all previously registered highs for the island in May but there was a wind blowing now and it gave us a chance to catch our breath and cool down, well, at least until we got on the Pacha dancefloor! We had dropped into Café Mambo to catch the opening and first sunset of the season, where John Digweed delivered a pre pre-season set – the Insane DJs will be dropping into the famous sunset bar throughout the summer warming you up for their Pacha party. By the time we gathered ourselves and headed across the island to Pacha, Alex Kennon had the room well and truly warmed up with a deeper set that has filled the floor and instilled an air of anticipation amongst the masses, ready for the arrival of John Digweed.

It’s fair to say that Insane adopts a slightly different production policy from some of the other, more exuberant weekly residencies in Pacha, the lighting is on a minimal tip and normally features darker colours, giving it less of a discoteque and more of a club space feel, though there were a couple of huge inflatables that needed a double take! It works and shows yet another facet to the most famous of global clubbing brands. John Digweed takes to the booth and sets off on a musical journey that is littered with hypnotic basslines, subtle melodic loops, the odd haunting vocal here and there and a real power that engages the full dancefloor from the off. He’s not the most animated of DJs behind the booth, like that mercurial midfielder that always has time on the ball, he prefers to let his ability do the talking and the Insane crowd loves it. John Digweed’s hands might never be in the air, but he was the only one! The atmosphere was reminiscent of mid-August when, once you get to the dancefloor it’s virtually impossible to leave. It was the last chance to really let our hair down before the madness begins and judging by the reaction on the floor, Ibiza 2015 is going to be Insane!
