As the perfect punctuation to the end of last season, the Ibiza Yoga Festival restored many a burnt out island resident as the first edition of the event hit Ibiza Rocks House at Pikes in October. Taking place shortly after the closing parties, those in its midst transitioned neatly from retox to detox, as do many who venture from the Pikes bar and onto the Rockovery platform on the other side of the tennis court at the legendary Hotel. This month will be no different as the second edition of the festival kicks off with an extended line up over two full days.

Much like the rest of the island, this is a festival that blends what it does best with music and most classes will be accompanied by a fusion of beats and balearic soundtracks to supply an extra dimension of focus and flow to the sessions with everything from Ashtanga to Anusara yoga to JoGa Beats and London’s finest fashionista yogi, House Of Voga joining the team again. The festival will be in action over the Summer Solstice weekend of June 20 and 21 to take full advantage of the longest days of the year and showcase and share some of the best teachers, classes and propositions of you to relax and get your yogi groove – Ommmmm! With more then 12 different island resident teachers hand picked to give you a taster of their offerings, we have a range of styles of yoga for you to experience.

Saturday commences with Soul Adventures leading lady Trish Whelan serving up the opening two hours from 10am with her unique blend of music infused Kundalini yoga, aimed at lifting you right out of your comfort zone and catapulting you into the yogi freak zone, firing you up for the rest of the day with her grand finale session closing gong bath to get you vibrating at your highest frequency. Guest teacher Kirsty Gallagher, who opened up the Healing ibiza festival yoga area in May, will follow up on this with her heart opening and focused blend of asana and meditative flows and then it’s time for island stalwart, Arun Eden Lewis. Having trained with Dynamic Yoga’s Godfrey Devereux, Arun has blended this into his own series of sequences, the one which he will share with us is the 8 Indians and has been well received on Ibiza over the years making him one of the our favourite island yogi’s. JoGa Beats, a flow style of yoga fused with dance and music is next up and was created by ex BBC 6 music journalist Jo Youle. As a lover of all things movement based, often coming off the matt, Jo will work with an uplifting beat-led soundtrack to get you out of your head and firmly into your body, where the shake down will commence. Day one will end with a sunset acro Yoga session with Mehdi and Ola who have been taking their flying acrobatics style yoga all over the world, with Ibiza their latest stop.

Sunday features yet another jam packed line up of teachers, starting with Parisian island resident Arlette Armouyan’s Ashtanga Fusion session, where she blends flow with Hatha and the principles of the primary series, creating a decision dynamic sequence to get your day off with a bang. Following hot on her heels, new islander Nicole Gibbard will give us a taster of Body Art, a series of high energy dance fused moves that Madonna recently says she swears by to stay on top form. The brainchild of Robert Steinbacher an ex boxer and ballet dancer who will soon come to the island for the Body Art retreat, right after the festival at Tophill Retreats, is now storming the world as one of the most intriguing forms of yoga that both challenges and creates strength, develops core power and enables you to be more nimble on your toes.

Much loved island resident Ross Stephenson, will then bring things down a notch after two back to back sessions of high octane yoga, as he gives us a taster of his Mindfulness meditation technique that he is running courses on across Ibiza this summer at Samskara Ibiza, Aguas De Ibiza and at his own Acupuncture practice near San Lorenzo. Ayda Ellis, aka Yogi Yuni will follow this up with some Tantric and Anusara inspired yoga that will again get you back into your body and more aware of your being in a beautiful but powerful way that will re-charge your batteries and Re-set your soul, before Leanna Buchannen finishes up with her vinyasa flow session of 80s backed disco classics and flows that leave you floating with finesse.

Our final sunday night session has yet to be announced and will be in the next few days on our website, Ibizayogafestival.net, so keep it locked to see what else is in store and where the party is at after class, as no festival would be fit to finish at Pikes without a little soiree to celebrate two days of hard work on our matts. Email Jo on samskaraibiza@gmail.com for tickets to the festival – which are 50 euros for a day pass, 15 euros for a drop in class and and 95 euros for a two-day pass, including a Wild exotic super berry smoothie at the poolside bar where Wham once shot their Club Tropicana video in true style. Bring your loudest leggings, biggest smiles, and rubber ring for the after party!
